How to long or short a basket
with perps on Hyperliquid.

A spot basket lets you own a theme. A basket perp lets you trade it: long or short, with leverage, in a single order that opens every holding at once on Hyperliquid. This guide covers how a basket perp works, the baskets you can trade, what it costs and how to place your first order.

What is a basket perp?

A basket perp is a whole basket traded as perpetual futures on Hyperliquid. One order opens a position in every holding at once, each as its own Hyperliquid perp, in the basket's weights, so the position moves with the basket.

Behind the scenes it is one order per holding, sized from the basket’s live weights and sent to Hyperliquid together. Your profit or loss is the basket’s: the sum of its legs. Close it and every leg closes the same way.

Why trade a basket as a perp

  • Go short. A spot basket only rises with its holdings; a perp position can bet on the basket falling as easily as rising.
  • Use leverage. Put up margin for a position several times its size.
  • Trade more than Stock Tokens. Some baskets exist only as perps, built from stock indices, metals, oil and Asian stocks that have no token on Robinhood Chain.
  • Around the clock. Hyperliquid perps trade every hour of every day.

How to place your first basket perp

  1. Log in with email, Google, X, GitHub, a passkey or an existing wallet.
  2. Enable trading with one signature. It approves a trading key for bskts on your Hyperliquid account, so orders go through without a popup each time. The key can place and cancel orders and nothing else.
  3. Add margin to your Hyperliquid account. From a bskts account it is one step: USDG moves across and arrives as margin. You can also deposit USDC to Hyperliquid directly.
  4. Open the position. Pick the basket, long or short, the size and the leverage. Hyperliquid refuses any single order under $10, so a basket’s smallest position is $10 divided by its smallest weight. The page shows it before you trade.
  5. Set a take profit or stop loss on the basket’s return. It is watched around the clock, with the page closed too, and closes the whole basket at market when it is reached.

Leverage, margin and funding

Hyperliquid sets a maximum leverage for every asset, so a basket can go as high as the lowest maximum among its legs. Each leg is margined on Hyperliquid and can be liquidated if its margin runs out, so a basket position can lose all the margin behind it.

Perps have no expiry. Instead, each leg pays or receives funding every hour, depending on whether longs or shorts are in demand on that market. A basket’s funding is the sum of its legs’.

What it costs

  • Hyperliquid’s trading fee on each leg, at the base tier: at most 0.045% of its value for crypto, on Hyperliquid’s own markets, and 0.09% for stocks, indices and commodities, on its XYZ markets. Each fill reports the fee actually charged.
  • Funding, paid or received every hour while a position is open.
  • The bskts fee. bskts takes no fee of its own on perps today.

Money moves between your bskts account and Hyperliquid in either direction, each move with its bridge fee shown before you confirm.
